Smoothie Cleanse (with modifications)

Wow, talk about posting procrastination! I did this 2 day smoothie cleanse a few weeks back, and I'm finally getting the chance to post it here.

Following a crazy period in January when I was mildly sick and in the middle of settling into a new apartment, my eating habits had gone sideways. After chatting with a friend who was going through an equally crazy time, I decided that trying the 2 day smoothie portion of this cleanse would be a good idea. I figured it would be a good way to reset my system.

Would I do it again? Only with my modifications (I made it cleaner, and with coconut oil for a healthy fat), and if I could add two more mason jars to each day, because 6 smoothies just isn't enough.

So how this cleanse worked was that I drank 3 different types of smoothies (each smoothie nearly filled two 500ml/16 oz mason jars) throughout the day. Below are my modifications to make the smoothies as delicious as possible, while keeping them clean and nutritious. To make all the smoothies, just chop ingredients, blend, and drink away!

 Breakfast: Orange Zest Smoothie
  • 1 Cup fat-free plain Greek yogurt
  • Zest of one whole orange
  • One whole orange
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1 Cup Strawberries
  • Juice of one lemon
  • 4 Large swiss chard leaves, deribbed
  • 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
 Lunch Smoothie: Virgin Margarita
  • 1 1/2 Cups of spinach
  • 1 1/2 Cups of arugula
  • 2 1/2 Cups of blueberries
  • 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 Cup lime juice
  • 1 Strawberry Lemonade Nuun tablet, fully dissolved in 1 Cup of water
  • 1 Scoop strawberry-flavoured whey protein powder
NOTE: Stir in the protein powder last, after all ingredients have been well blended

Dinner Smoothie: Green Apple Smoothie
  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Apple, cored and seeded
  • 1/2 medium orange
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 Cup Strawberries
  • 2 Handfulls of spinach
  • 1 Small carrot
  • 1/2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 Scoop strawberry-flavoured whey protein powder
NOTE: Stir in the protein powder last, after all ingredients have been well blended

Enjoy!
